The St. Asaph Scarecrow Competition
It's back! Following on from the success last year, the St. Asaph Community Association has organised the 2017 St. Asaph Scarecrow competition to tie in with the City Status Celebrations. We would like to make it even bigger success this year and so we would like residents, local business and schools of St. Asaph to make scarecrows and place them in prominent positions in gardens, business windows, and school yards around the city.
The theme for the 2017 St. Asaph Scarecrow competition is ‘Nursery Rhymes”.
Therefore, all entries should be based on a character or characters, in a Nursery Rhyme. There is no limit to the number of scarecrows you can enter in one scene, so if you want to make Humpty Dumpty and a few of The Kings Men, they would be judged as one entry.
Closing date to receive entry forms is 4.00pm Monday 15th May. There is a competition entry fee of £2.00 per entry. To enter please complete an entry form, these can be found in local businesses within the city and place it in one of the City Times boxes throughout the city.
Scarecrows should be in-situ from 2.00pm on Friday 19th May until after judging on Wednesday 31st May 2017. It is hoped that as many as possible can be moved to the Parish Church after the judging.
The Scarecrows will be judged by the Chair of the St. Asaph Community Association and a representative of Swayne Johnson who are very kindly sponsoring the event again. There will be four categories –
The winner of each category will win £25 plus the best overall entry will win £100.
- Children’s entry (up to 16 yrs),
- Residential entry
- Business entry
- School entry
The judging will be done on Wednesday 31st May 2017 and the winners will be announced during the City Status Celebrations weekend. It is hoped that as many scarecrows as possible will be placed in the grounds of the Parish Church, after judging has been done, so that they can be seen by residents and visitors to the weekend celebrations. The winners will be presented with their prizes over this weekend.
